It seems as if there’s no down time in the golf business anymore—certainly not at this time of year. In the north, everyone’s scrambling like crazy to get courses ready for opening day. In the south, it’s all about repairing the damage wrought by departing snowbirds and preparing for another summer of unpredictable (at best) weather. But it must also be said that halcyon days are around the corner—in a few weeks, spring will bring another splendid season of perfect weather for growing grass and playing golf, and the unbridled optimism at the heart of the game will be renewed in each of us. This year: No grass disease! One hundred new members! 50,000 rounds! (Hey, a man can dream, can’t he?)
